Press Release                                                     16th May 2011

Chris Robertshaw MHK wishes to confirm that he will be putting his name forward as a candidate at the forthcoming general election for the constituency of Douglas East.

Elected for the first time a year ago in a by–election he chose to stay outside of government, preferring to spend the year getting up to speed and scrutinising the work of each department. He also sat on four select committees during the year, chairing two of them.

I have called it ‘a view from the inside’.

As a preface to what follows I would like to say that anyone might be forgiven for thinking that I am simply a closed minded critic with nothing good to say.

I hope nothing is further from the truth for the Isle of Man is a deeply blessed place in having its own parliament. That such a small community has the potential to so significantly decide its own fate is indeed remarkable – we have a great gift – a gift that should provide us all with an opportunity to make a difference.

From now on visitors to the Tynwald website will not just be able to see the Order Paper in advance of the sitting but will also be able to click through to all documents which support each item on the Order Paper. This gives everyone a much better and higher level of access to the information before the court sits, so, if you have a particular subject you feel strongly about, why not check to see if it is on the upcoming Order Paper. If it is, read up on it and then tell me what you think before the sitting. To access the order paper go to www.tynwald.org.im then click on official papers then order papers, then for example, if you wish to see the Order Paper for Tuesday the 19th October 2010 click first on 2010-2011 and then 19th October 2010. Good hunting.
